Reminder

Like a demon’s ugly fingers

the heat snatched at me

it’s vile smoke trying to choke

the glass in the car

creaked and groaned

like a desperate lover

animals and men flee

as the greedy bastard

gorged itself on dry plants

and they screamed reminders

that men were the cause

but never in charge
